This is how we learned at a very young age to have an external point of reference. To not go inward but rather Out. To rely on something outside us for the yardstick by which we measure ourselves.

To ignore how we Feel in favor of how we Look.

And it hasn’t been working for us!

We grew up seeing our mothers crushed by cultural dictates. We inherited from them the tyranny of the mirror.

If we don’t stop in time we risk raising daughters and granddaughters under the same dictatorship of the looking glass.
