Womb of Compassion

A Tri-Lingual poem ( Hebrew, Romanian, English)
in praise of our Womb!

When I first wrote ‘My Romanian Roots’ – a Tri-Lingual poem, I thought it was a one-time burst of reclaiming my roots in all three languages.
To my surprise, those three tongues, which are braided in my soul, are pushing at the edges, nudging me forward, juicing up my creativity…
I am delighted, and humbled by this multi-lingual pallet of colors, sounds, and rhythms in which I can immerse, and from which I can create.
Enjoy!

Womb of Compassion ~

A Tri-Lingual poem
(Hebrew, English, Romanian)
by
DeAnna L’am

the womb
is compassion, we deem
pântecul
este cântecul
vieții
the womb is a poem
pântecul
este rădăcină
da unde trăim
Will you forgive us?
că te-am uitat
we try
to forgive ourselves
for forgetting you
Matrix, Creatrix,
ne întoarcem la tine
we return to you, and
ne îmbrățișezi
you wrap us
in boundless compassion
de unde venim

Yom Kippur Eve ~

For those of you who may not be familiar with all three languages, here is an English adaptation of the spirit of the poem. It lacks the rhythm, rhyme, and tapestry of the original, but it offers a sense…

English adaptation

My womb!
our womb –
is compassion, we deem
it is the song of life,
creation’s poem,
she who brings life
upon us,
the root
from whence we live.
Will you forgive
us
for forgetting
you are the mother of all life?
we try
to forgive ourselves
for forgetting you
Matrix, Creatrix,
we return to you,
you wrap us
in boundless compassion,
and our heart is innocent
again
we return
to whence we come from

  1. Loved it. What a beautiful and wonderful idea – to pay homage in your three languages.
Which one of the languages flows more easily from your spirit? Which one carries the
power of the words and meanings more deeply?
    Thank you for this beauty.

    1. Thank you, Claire, what a thought provoking question!
Hebrew definitely flows most easily from my spirit,
Romanian goes as deep as my birth and ancestors,
with English I create and teach with,
yet all three are braided in my soul… making me who I am
